APIL appeals over court closure plan
Personal injury solicitors are lobbying the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to ensure that residents are not left with restricted access to justice in light of the proposal to close Burton County Court.
The reaction comes after Burton was named among 54 county courts shortlisted for possible closure in a bid to save £36 million a year.
The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) has appealed to the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) to provide a guarantee that all county court hearings will take place within a set time period, in the event of the court’s closure. The time limit is usually between 20 working days of a preliminary application being issued.
Recently the senior presiding judge for England and Wales, Lord Justice Goldring, wrote a report claiming that Burton County Court should be saved from closure along with 15 other county courts across the country.
